High Dive

Monday I was in Brooklyn working and hanging out with friends. The sun was setting and we decided to go to this hangout spot called High Dive. My point of view is from an elderly person point of view. It was a great atmosphere for older men and women because it was quiet and they were playing 1940’s music. They were also serving cocktails and the waitress’ were wearing 1940’s clothes and dressing up as Marilyn Monroe and other 1940’s actors. They were also serving popcorn for free! I would of loved to see more crystal chandeliers  and re carpets. I am going to tell my grandparents to go there. I know they would get a kick out of it.

Mission Dalores

I was in Brooklyn this weekend and went to a bunch of different dive bars. One particular bar that I absolutely loved was Mission Dalores. It used to be an old tire shop turned into a activity filled bar with a great outdoor patio. Shuffle board is constantly being played there along with other board games. What i did notice was how the bar wasn’t accessible for handicapped people witch was a shame. I am writing from the point of view of a handicapped person because I know those people are trying to go out and have a fun tim too! I think that their should be a ramp installed along with an elevator to make it easier for the disabled to have access to the bar.

Ocean City Skatepark

I have been going to the Ocean City skatepark in downtown Ocean City. It is a really great park but there is no mini ramp for those skaters who like to mess around on transition. They also charge kids to get into the skatepark which isn’t good for the kids. Kids need a spot to skate for free so it will keep them out of trouble. I want to fix these issues for the kids and for the true skaters. There is plenty of room to install a mini ramp. The skaters need to step up and demand their transition that they deserve.

Pemperton Park

I have been hanging out at Pemperton Park in Salisbury a good amount in the past couple of weeks. I couldn’t help but to notice the point of views of the off road bicycle riders who venture through the park. Let me first say that Pemperton Park is a beautiful historical nature park with trails in the middle of the woods. The only thing I would like to improve about the park is some of the bridges that the bike riders have trouble getting over due to the erosion from the elements. Pemperton Park needs to fix up there bridges so bicycle riders can pass easily. It would be safer and more enjoyable for everyone, especially those off road bike riders to enjoy the nature trails.

8 x 10 Baltimore MD

This past week I went to a small music venue at the 8 x 10 in downtown Baltimore. It was a fantastic fun little club/bar. Music was playing and artists were painting upstairs. I couldn’t help to notice that the artists could have used more room. The thing is there was plenty of room that was being token up by unnecessary music equipment. If the 8 x 10 would of put the music equipment somewhere else, their would of been way more room for the artists! More artists also means more money! More painters could have joined and more art enthusiasts would have gravitated to the venue. The Mantras 2/16/13 The 8x10 Baltimore MD

East Moon

I was hanging out at the new Japanese Restaurant in Salisbury this week called East Moon.East Moon is great because they have live music playing on the weekends. I was trying to look through the eyes of the musicians playing and noticed that they don’t have enough room to setup all their equipment properly. This really concerns me since the bands are making the majority of the income for East Moon on the weekends. Maybe if East Moon set up the band in a different part of the restaurant everyone would be happier. There is plenty of space in the back room where not too many reside. If the equipment was set up in that part of the restaurant; I feel like the bands would be more comfortable and happy which would make everyone else happy as well. I think East Moon would get more business too because this would allow more fans to come and watch.

Echo Stage ft. DJ Handicapped Vision

This past Friday I was at Echo Stage in D.C. to see the D.J. Datsik with a couple of friends. Being the adventurous young men that we are, I expected to have a wild time at this concert. As soon as I walked in to the venue I immediately noticed how uncomfortably packed it was. An endless sea of people took over the first floor of the venue and I quickly looked for other places to stand and watch the concert with my friends. I luckily located the staircase to the second floor where there were much fewer party people. When I got to the stairs to go up into the second floor, I noticed a kid about my age in a wheelchair struggling to find his greener pasture. I walked up to him before I went up the stairs and asked if there was an elevator he could use to get up to the second floor but he replied with a bitter and sad “no man”.

“Do I get my buddies to attempt to lug him up the stairs so he can enjoy the show?” was my first thought, but then my boy quickly yanked on my shirt and it was UP WE GO! Only, I wish he hadn’t done this because the whole time during the show all I could think of was this poor kid hating his life and not being able to see the D.J.  I even caught myself looking around for him to see how he was doing and look for a smile on his face, but there never was one.

After we got out of the show, I couldn’t help but still think of this kid and how the lack of accommodations for the disabled ruined his night. I was extremely offended that a well known venue had no assistance for him and that he wasn’t having a wild time when he should have been. The answer to this problem is so simple, but without looking at it through the eyes of the disabled, some people may never solve it.
